NYC Theatrical Premiere, One Week Only!

GABI ON THE ROOF IN JULY is a caustically funny yet sincere portrait of young New York and the misguided hopefuls who can't afford to live there but do anyway. The Best Feature winner at the 2010 Brooklyn Film Festival (and toast of Cinequest, Sidewalk and Indie Memphis), filmmaker Lawrence Michael Levine's assured, character-driven comedy about ex-girlfriends, sibling rivalry and whipped cream makes its New York theatrical premiere with a week-long run, January 21 - 27.

Radical, hell-raising Oberlin undergrad Gabi (Sophia Takal) heads to Brooklyn to spend the summer with her older brother Sam (Levine), seeking solidarity in the wake of their parents' divorce. Once she arrives, she finds Sam too busy juggling women -- and too irked by her provocative antics and almost constant nudity -- to give her the guidance she needs. In an effort to get Sam's attention, Gabi seduces his free-loving, freeloading college buddy (Louis Cancelmi), only to find she's in over her head.

The film boasts an outstanding ensemble of talent, including Lena Dunham (TINY FURNITURE), Brooke Bloom (CEREMONY, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU), Amy Seimetz (BITTER FEAST, OPEN FIVE), Kate Lyn Sheil (star of the upcoming SILVER BULLETS), Jay DiPietro (director of PETER AND VANDY), and Vetiver guitarist Kevin Barker -- who also composed the score.

99 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated.

SCREENINGS: FRI 1/21 (7pm, 10pm), SAT 1/22 (12pm), SUN 1/23 (4pm), MON 1/24 (7pm), TUE 1/25 (7pm, 10pm), WED 1/26 (7pm, 10pm), THU 1/27 (10pm)

*** COME EARLY FOR LIQUOR & SNACKS!  Last call 5 minutes before showtime

*** SPECIAL GUESTS + Q&AS on Thursday, January 27

"Lawrence Levine should earn some attention with this agreeable indie comedy... Levine offers a mostly sharp takedown of middle-class hipsterdom, and he's terrific as a guy whose easygoing demeanor hides continuing growing pains."
- Elizabeth Weitzman, NY DAILY NEWS (Jan. 21, 2011)

"Sharply observed! Talented performers have developed credible characters and realistic scenes of life among the young and confused in bohemian Brooklyn."
- Mike Hale, THE NEW YORK TIMES (Jan. 20, 2011)

"Levine deploys a poised eye and witty dialogue that sticks like a needle left sitting on a cushion... Wisely observant of human nature as it bounces between its leads, GABI evokes Woody Allen with a more generous heart (and a lot more casual nudity)."
- Steve Dollar, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL (Jan. 20, 2011)

"Remarkably, the film gradually, effectively coheres, building to a climax at once unexpected yet integral to what has transpired before."
- Ronnie Scheib, VARIETY (Jan. 17, 2011)

"Deeply realized, surprising and full of energy! GABI evokes a New York sentimentalist tradition that mixes the edge of golden era Cassavetes with the nostalgia of Woody Allen."
- Sara Schieron, BOX OFFICE MAGAZINE

"Disconcertingly savvy about relationships... GABI navigates our post-mumblecore moment with aplomb."
- Alejandro Adams, HAMMER TO NAIL
